This Christmas I’ve had the privilege of viewing splendid Christmas lights across the U.S. I spent an evening walking around Salt Lake City with my dearest friends, enjoying the incredible array of lights, and the Cristus overlooking a beautiful Nativity scene. Later, my family and I visited the Opryland Hotel and enjoyed their lights and decorations. With every display of lights or even a simple Christmas tree, I’ve thought about their symbolism.

Each of those bulbs represents you and me and our efforts to lead others to Christ. A lot of times we think we have to do everything. We have to be the one to shine brightly, to make a difference, and we sometimes feel alone in the process. But in reality the tree is decorated with a multitude of lights. We are not alone in our efforts. If we will join forces with others who want to make a positive impact, we can light up this world in a display like no one has ever seen before. But that requires laying aside our differences and coming together in friendship and unity across denominational lines. It’s time we did our part in fulfilling Christ’s plea to the Father that we might be one even as He and His Father are one! (John 17:11)

Think of the evergreen as our Savior Jesus Christ. He’s alive, vibrant and eternal. But, in this world, few see Him. They’re so busy with earning a living, paying the bills, and pursuing their own interests, that they rarely see Him. Perhaps this is why John referred to Him as the “light [which] shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” (John 1:5). But string that tree with lights and an amazing thing occurs – people not only see the tree, but are drawn to it.

Each of us with our own unique talents, abilities and experiences represent a colorful shining light on Christ’s tree. The world can’t see Him, but they CAN see you and me! As we lay aside our differences, release our fear, pride, jealousy and insecurities, we can come together in Him and share His love and light with an ever-darkening world.

This is what Lighting the World is all about. Jesus told us to stop lighting candles and putting them under bushel baskets. He admonished us to keep oil in our lamps so we could light the way for others. He challenged us to be like glowing cities atop hills that cannot be hid. What’s more, He told us to seek first the Kingdom of God and all those material concerns like food, shelter and raiment would be added by Him. The world has it backwards my friends. Everyone’s waiting to have enough money to make a difference. Make a difference and your needs will be met!

I’m asking you to join me in lighting the greatest, grandest Christmas tree that has ever existed. Not a physical one, but a spiritual one — one that brings Christians together in critical mass to transform this world and prepare it for His second coming! It all starts today with you. Step into your own divine destiny, your own unique color shining brightly alongside others.

If this concept intrigues you, we’d love to have you join us in person at a live event with a couple hundred other women who are ready to light the world in a brilliant way. I’d like to personally invite you to join me April 20-23rd, 2010 for the “Light the World: Birthing Your Destiny Retreat” in Zions National Park. We’ll have wonderful music, speakers, entertainers, and guides there who will help you

  • Discover your divine destiny,
  • Catch a vision of who you are and your relationship to your Father in Heaven.
  • Remove any blocks, fears or insecurities that have been holding you back, and

The Cry of the Human Heart

This poem was written by my friend Jim Lake. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! 🙂

Please catch me doing something good
And let the cheering start
This type of love is understood
It fortifies the heart

Try now to see the best in me
Don’t judge me in advance
Extend some warmth and empathy
Give me a second chance

I think of times when I was young
And really dropped the ball
Some folks said things that hurt and stung
It did not help at all

I felt like I should run and hide
And never show my face
I thought no one was on my side
To show a little grace

I’m older now and years have passed
And time is marching on
But in my mind I’ve often asked
Is all the sweetness gone?

Do folks today know how to cheer
For family, friends and foes
Or take the time to shed a tear
Or smell a lovely rose

There is so much we all can do
To help our fellow man
By reaching out to just a few
We’re fitting in God’s plan

God wants the world to see His love
Quite active in our lives
To show the Kingdom we are of
That serves and still survives

Be What The Lord Wants You To Be
Let Him Make All Things New
Share Love And Kindness Endlessly
I’m Cheering Now For You!!!

Sharing Stories Brings Meaning from Tragedy

last legal hanging in GeorgiaI just realized something important last night. Everything I do is about lighting the world by helping others share their stories. People teach what they’ve learned through articles on IdeaMarketers; they share their stories and poetry on SheLovesGod. I help them build platforms from which they can light the world and share their impactful “stories.”

With my latest historical fiction novel, An Uncertain Justice, finally making its way to print after 2 years of research, writing and editing, I only realized last night how it fits into the grand scheme of things! I know, I can be incredibly slow sometimes!

My great-great aunt watched her father die in her arms. My grandfather lost his mentor in a senseless murder. The trauma they went through and the death my 2nd great grandfather suffered suddenly holds meaning with the release of An Uncertain Justice. Their story of forgiveness, healing, mercy and justice is finally being told after 87 years. All the wonderful themes woven throughout this novel will not only entertain, but also help people explore important concepts and deal with their own life’s challenges.

So, yet again, I am taking someone’s story and putting it out there for others to benefit. It’s so wonderful to feel that heavenly assurance that yes, I am on purpose, and this novel is significant. I have felt in my heart for some time that my ancestors want their story told. Now I understand why . . . it gives meaning to all they suffered.

Suddenly, all the delays and strange computer viruses and crashes that ate manuscripts make sense. Heaven wanted me to get so clear on my mission and message that nothing would stop me – that I would be fearless in doing justice to “An Uncertain Justice!”

It’s Not Business, It’s Personal

In my associations with professionals in both casual and business settings, I’ve taken the time to observe human nature. In the process, I’ve found that among those who are spot-on experts, there are two distinct types:

  1. Those who are always “on,” who are polished and can integrate what they do into every conversation. Their elevator speeches roll off their tongues like well oiled pieces of sales copy. Everything stays professional and there appears to be no chinks in their armor.
  2. Then there are those who tend to ask about you first. They show interest in you before they talk about themselves. They too know how to clearly explain their business, but they aren’t afraid to appear vulnerable or have a conversation that doesn’t revolve around business.

Of these two types of individuals, I am naturally drawn to the second group. Why? Because they feel real! They are authentic, and I can relate to them. Sure, they are successful in their businesses, but they still put their jackets on one sleeve at a time like I do.

It is their “human-ness” that endears me to them. Maybe it’s because I’m past being impressed with accolades, fame and awards. In my 20-year business career, I’ve found that it’s much easier to be a business success than it is to be an authentic human being.

Whether we’re talking live events or social media, I see these same types of business people. Time after time, I am drawn to real people who also happen to be successful at what they do. Maybe it’s because up until ten years ago, I was always “on” – always thinking business, dreaming business, talking business. And I wasn’t happy! Life is about so much more than business. It’s those who are authentic and realize that “life is one indivisible whole” (Ghandi) who really make an impact for good in the world.

He Shed a Thousand Drops for You

I’ve always been fascinated by the symbols God leaves in nature. While visiting Kayenta, Utah, I came upon an extraordinary tree that pointed me closer to Jesus Christ. This video shares insights I received on the power of the atonement to heal relationships, hearts and transform lives. I hope you enjoy it…

One Flight Down – Norah Jones and Your Beliefs

I love the soulful voice and melodies of Norah Jones. Sometimes I wish I could play the piano like that so bad it hurts.

Yesterday was the first time I’d heard her recording of “One Flight Down.” At a glance, you look at the words and say, “Well what in the world is that about? Is it just about a song playing in the apartment downstairs?” As I pondered it more, I realized just how incredibly profound it is.

First here’s the song with the lyrics for Norah Jones’, “One Flight Down:”

One Flight Down by Norah Jones Video

One flight down
There’s a song on low
And your mind just picked up on the sound
Now you know you’re wrong
Because it drifts like smoke
And it’s been there playing all along
Now you know
Now you know

The reeds and brass have been weaving
Leading into a single note

In this place
Where your arms unfold
Here at last you see your ancient face
Now you know
Now you know

The cadence rolls in broken
Plays it over and then goes

One flight down
There’s a song on low
And it’s been there playing all along
Now you know
Now you know

Have you ever had an “aha moment” when you realized that your perception of things was completely off base? When you realized you were building your life and making choices on a faulty belief? Perhaps you discovered that there was an underlying statement in your subconscious mind (one flight down) that was affecting you, controlling your actions, “weaving, leading into a single note.” Something like, “It’s hard to make money.” Or “I have to be perfect for God to love me,” or “Everybody’s in debt . . . debt is part of life.”

In this “aha moment” “your arms unfold” and “here at last you see your ancient face” … the old incorrect belief that was there all along. Like a cadence rolling in broken, your mind played it over again, pushing it “one flight down” into your subconscious mind. From there it controlled your thoughts, words, actions and results.

But now you hear the melody… “you know that you were wrong” and with that realization, nothing will ever be the same again.

I don’t know what Norah Jones would say this song is about. But another interpretation could be your life message that is playing like a song in the background . . . put into your subconscious mind from birth that is leading you, guiding you along toward a “single note”… a single message that you were born to convey.  Your “ancient face” could be that eternal part of you that has always existed and in that aha moment, you see who you truly are.

Just because you hadn’t heard the melody playing before, doesn’t mean it wasn’t there. All the while guiding you forward, affecting your life choices and outcomes. Maybe it rolls along broken because of all the gunk we’ve let life put in the way. Then, in that moment you hear the melody and everything changes. 🙂  Ooooh, I think I like this interpretation the best. 🙂

I’d be curious to hear what you think!
