90 Day Challenge

stand still

Day 36: Stand Still & See the Salvation of the Lord

What do you do when you’re in a no-win situation and there seems to be no way out? You can take a lesson from Moses and the children of Israel at the Red Sea. Still and see the salvation of the Lord. This could be your miracle moment.

“And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.” Exodus 14:13-14

In some circumstances, I believe God wants us to use our own ingenuity and the minds He gave us to find solutions to our challenges.

There are times when He wants us to pray to have our eyes opened to see the solutions around us. In those times He can direct us which way to go.

Yet, there are other times when Pharaoh’s chasing us, the desert surrounds us, and the Red Sea looms ahead. We are in a fish bowl with nowhere to go. I believe in those times, when everything looks impossible, that God may be about to part the Red Sea.

If you find yourself in this impossible place, it’s important to drop the fear and stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. This could be the moment where the cycles and chains of bondage are about to be broken once and for all.

This may be the moment of your deliverance where your oppressors (whether they be people, repeating challenges, or addictions) are about to be slain. This is a miracle moment when you’ll see those enemies “again no more forever.”

millennial choir

Day 35 Light the World: Be Still My Soul

I had the exquisite pleasure of attending the Millennial Choir and Orchestra performance tonight. My friend Leslie Householder got me tickets to their Be Still My Soul production. The first song they performed was How Great Thou Art, and I have included a video below of their version of the song. I wish I had a recording of their version of Be Still My Soul, but it has not been released yet.

Be Still My Soul touched me profoundly. I’d played it on the piano at my mother’s funeral, so this put her uppermost in my mind. As I closed my eyes and let the music wash over me, a scene entered my mind of my mother arriving in heaven surrounded by concourses of angels, celebrating her return as she came into the presence of the Savior. Such joy filled my heart for her.

Here’s the video of the Millennial Choir and Orchestra performing How Great Thou Art. There’s no comparison to attending live but this gives you a taste.

anxiety

Day 34: Meditation for Anxiety and Insomnia

I’ve often used this passage as a meditation visual to help me deal with anxiety and insomnia when life gets challenging. It comes from Luke 8:22-25

Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth.

But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy.

And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.

And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.”

forgiven much

Day 33: Those Who Are Forgiven Much, Love Much

Luke 7:36-50 tells the story of a sinful woman who comes to Jesus at a Pharisees home and begins to wash Jesus’ feet with her tears, dry them with her hair, and anoint them with oil. The Pharisee judges both the woman and Jesus in his heart. He’s certain if Jesus were really a prophet he’d know this woman was sinful and wouldn’t let her near him.

Jesus, perceiving Simon the Pharisee’s thoughts, shares a parable about two debtors that illustrates how those who are forgiven much, love much. While we don’t want to sin judy so we can be forgiven more and love more, there is a way for any one of us to truly comprehend our own need for forgiveness and increase our love for God and other people — even our enemies.

In this video I share my experience with this principle and how I have applied it in my life. I hope you find it insightful.

I highly recommend Dr. John Demartini’s book, The Breakthrough Experience. It will transform your life, help you forgive, release judgement and increase your love for yourself and others. Most of all it will help you trust God’s divine plan for your life no matter what has happened or is happening.

faith

Day 32: Trust in the Lord

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6

For the last week and for the next month I’m on an adventure in trusting  the Lord and seeing how He provides and where He leads. I’ve been pleasantly surprised how everything is working out. I always have somewhere nice to stay with loving people. Both houses I’ve stayed in so far even have pianos for me to continue practicing my music and working on some compositions.

I felt very strongly I should take this trip to Utah even though I wasn’t exactly sure where it would lead or what would come of it. I’m still not sure what it’s all about, but it has already reconnected me to myself. I feel more like my highest and best self than I have in three years.

I’m also reconnecting to my divine purpose. Doing this 90 Day Light The World: Build the Kingdom Challenge in conjunction with the trip is working miracles in my heart and soul.

I’ll keep you posted on this adventure as it continues.

walk on water

Day 31: Walk on Water with Your Eyes on the Master

I woke up this morning thinking about how Jesus invites us to walk on water. Water symbolizes emotion. It’s unstable, it’s certainly not a sure foundation. It’s volatile and the sea is unpredictable.

Our lives get that way sometimes. When you feel like you have no foundation anymore and emotions brim at the surface, keeping your eye on Jesus and realizing He’s right there with you, helping you walk on the water, reduces anxiety and facilitates miracles.

That’s one thing I love about the 90 Day Light The World: Build The Kingdom Challenge. Each morning we ask God one thing we can do to be a light, to build His kingdom. Then we act on the inspiration and opportunities that come. This shifting of perspective to focus on the Master calms our hearts and minds, and before long we’re walking on water. Please join us! It’s incredible!

power of pain

Day 30: The Power of Pain

I taught a class in Utah on transforming your troubles into thought leadership and creating your online systems for getting your message out online. During the lunch break, I had a great conversation today with one of my students (soon to-be-best-selling author, Cosette Snarr) about the power of pain and how resisting pain actually prolongs it.

What we resist persists.

I think one thing that has expedited my healing is immersing myself in the memories, embracing the pain, shedding the tears, and seeing the blessings laced within the tragedy. God’s hand is everywhere when we take time to look for it.

The joy in this journey has been every bit as exquisite as the pain. It seems that pain hollows out a deeper crucible for joy.

I never thought such a thing would be possible, but through the grace and mercy of the Holy Messiah nothing is impossible. I’m incredibly grateful for what God is doing in my life.

As I’ve pondered on this further, I’ve thought about Jesus and the immense pain that went through — more than anyone, more than all of us combined. Then I think of the exquisite joy and glory He obtained as He now sits down on the right hand of the Father. I’m so grateful for what He endured for me and the rich blessings that are available to each of us through His grace.

(By the way, I wasn’t able to record a video for today because I was teaching all day and on the road to visit my grandson in Idaho all evening.  But I hope this little thought gives you something to ponder.)

receive one hundred fold

Day 28: Receive One Hundred Fold

And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s,

But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. Mark 10:29-30

depression

Day 27: Overcoming Depression, Hopelessness, Addiction and Suicide

I had a couple interesting conversations with people about how the need to look perfect and like you have it all together can lead to depression, hopelessness, addiction and even suicide.

If you think about it, our society glamorizes the ideal. Photoshopping is not reality. A lot of us are tempted to portray only our “best side” on social media. There are subcultures in some religions that pressure people to look like they’re perfect and have no problems. And people with some “sins” or life challenges are hammered by internal and/or external shame.

The first thing Satan told Adam and Eve in the garden after they ate the fruit was that they should be ashamed because they were naked and to hide. He’s still telling us the same thing. That we should be ashamed of who we are and what we’ve done and to go hide.

A big part of my growth and healing journey has been to openly feel and admit my emotions and my challenges. When I acknowledge to another person (aka confess) Satan can’t shame me anymore over that thing. I’ve called him out and he holds no power over me there.

Satan tempts men to sin, then to be ashamed and to hide from each other and from God. Husbands hide from wives. Wives hide from husbands. Children hide from parents and we hide from each other in every aspect of society.

God gives us the solution. Confess, open your eyes and your ears to his love, receive Christ’s grace, let him heal you. Every sin is a result of a deep unmet need. Let Him meet the need and heal the wound and the desire for sin goes away. Then he touches you with his finger so you can shine like a candle on a candlestick.

With God, condemnation and shame are never part of the prescription. Don’t let Satan shame you. Call him out. Go to someone you can trust and confess the doubts, fears, emotions and thoughts he’s putting into your mind. Go to someone who is connected to Christ and let them walk beside you back to the Savior so he can heal you.

Today, I’m sharing one of my favorite hymns, “Be Still My Soul”

light the world

Day 26: Light the World: Shine Yours!

“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.”

“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:13-16)

divine retsoration

Day 25: Divine Restoration

Today’s message from the 90 Day Light the World: Build The Kingdom Challenge is on Divine Restoration from Joel 2:25-26.

And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.

And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed.

grace

Day 24: Grace – God Sent Not His Son to Condemn

Our thought today for the Light the World: Build the Kingdom 90 Day Challenge comes from John 3:16-21 and is about the grace of God and how to activate it in your life to bring about true transformation.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God” John 3:16-21

peace

Day 21: Peace That Passes All Understanding

Peace of mind can be one of the most elusive things we seek in life. It remains out of reach for most people because there will always be challenges and problems. If those things are allowed to disrupt your peace, you’ll never know it for any length of time. Philippians 4:6-7 holds the answer. I discuss it in Day 21 of the Light the World: Build The Kingdom 90 Day Challenge video.

offended

Day 20: When You’re Offended On Social Media

How many times has someone said something on social media that offended you or led to you feeling hurt or angry? It’s really easy to misunderstand what someone is saying on social media or via text. It’s hard to know what someone really means without hearing their tone of voice, seeing their body language or being able to read their minds.

How can we apply Biblical principles of how to treat each other to how we interact with each other on social media platforms like Facebook?

“Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:17-21

This short video talks about how to apply this passage to how we treat each other on social media.

surrender

Day 19: Surrender and Sweet Freedom

I believe that with any significant breakthrough there’s a surrender point. Surrender has been tricky for me to understand and articulate. Perhaps it’s something you have to experience and not something one can adequately describe to anyone else.

I’ve been to the sad frustrated “I give up. Whatever you want, Lord,” point. That place feels defeated. It feels like your confidence is shattered, and you’re just going to submit to be thrown and tossed wherever God wants to sling you.

I realize now that this is really not the type of surrender the Lord wants. Or maybe He is okay with it because it’s just a step along the journey. I don’t think God wants us to feel defeated, shattered or hopeless. I also don’t believe He wants us to see Him as someone who wants to inflict bad things on us to beat us down to submission. He loves us. He wants good for us. He isn’t taking joy in tormenting us.

After starting to grasp that EVERYTHING – literally EVERYTHING is a gift and that God uses every last thing to bring good into our lives, I have come to a different place of surrender. Now I feel an overwhelming trust.

It’s being a curious observer, absolutely knowing there is good in every single moment. It’s opening my eyes to see the good NOW. It’s trusting that the future is just like now – perfect. There’s no need to worry about the future. He’s orchestrating good there too.

I watch with hopeful anticipation to see where God is taking me and how it is all going to fall together. I have every confidence it will in the perfect way, time, place and with the right people.

My job is to put Him first — seek first to be the light He sent me here to be. I do my work, do my best, but I don’t feel the need to orchestrate, control or manipulate anything. That’s His job. Every day is a fun surprise to see where He’ll place the blessings and how things will eventually fall into place.

I hope I can stay in this place. It is the most amazing, peaceful and hopeful place. By all appearances, I should be distraught and an anxious mess, but I’m as calm as a sunny morning. God is good! Life is good! I am blessed.

great pyrenees

Day 18: All Creatures Great and Small

I’ve been praying for months now to find a new home for my Great Pyrenees. She won’t be able to stay with us long term because we’ll be moving to an apartment in the fall. I needed to find a home for her before I left to spend the summer in Utah next week. I’ve been praying for her to have a great farm with animals so she could really shine in her element. This week God led us to a perfect home for Snow. In today’s segment I share the story of how this all came together in only a way that God can orchestrate.

Here’s a video of Snow checking out her new home:

healing

Day 17: Open Our Eyes That We Might See

One of the most powerful prayers I’ve prayed is, “Lord, please open my eyes that I may see the opportunities in everything around me.” So many times we are blind. We do not see what is right in front of our faces. While Jesus healed many people who were physically blind during his mortal ministry, I believe the greater miracle is often opening our spiritual eyes.

Today’s thought comes from Matthew 20:3-34:

“And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David. And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.

And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you?

They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.

So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.”  Matthew 20:30-34

God Is Love

Day 16: God Is Love

God is love. Everyone is special to God.  He is especially fond of each and every one of us. These are some lessons I learned from watching the movie, “The  Shack.” The movie helped me gain greater understanding about my own life, the challenges I’ve faced and forgive even more.

healing

Day 15: What Is the Path to Healing?

Many of us want healing in our lives — healing in our hearts, minds, bodies, emotions, and families. So many suffer from broken hearts, broken homes, lost confidence, sick bodies, and mental or emotional challenges. How can we find healing that gives hope and peace? Jesus gave this formula in Matthew 13:15:

“For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears and should understand with their hearts, and should be converted, and I should heal them.”

sing a new song

Day 13: Sing Unto the Lord a New Song

“O sing unto the Lord a new song; for he hath done marvelous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.” – Psalm 98:1

Music is one of the most healing things I’ve ever found and it has been a huge part of my life and especially the healing process I’ve gone through over the last two or three months. It has been a lifeline and I think one of the best ways we can share the light with others and help them feel the Spirit of God is through music.

Here’s a song that has been a lifeline for me over the last few months – “Thy Will” by Hillary Scott. This entire playlist is a collection of songs I’ve listened to in order to heal my heart. What songs bring light to your mind and peace to your soul?

joint heirs with Christ

Day 12: Joint Heirs with Christ

Most of us live far beneath our privileges. We often live like paupers instead of princes and princess. In reality we are the children of God and joint heirs with Christ. It’s time we started acting like it. In this video, I talk about Romans 8:14-17

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons (and daughters) of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father! The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God. And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ.”

love your enemies

Day 11: Love Your Enemies

Jesus taught “Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, bless them that curse you, and pray for them which spitefully use you and persecute you.”  This is a tall order. How in the world do we get to the point where we love someone who has wronged us or severely hurt us? In this short video I give some ideas that have been working for me lately. I do not claim to be perfect in this regard by any stretch but I have received some insight by swallowing my pride and praying for my enemy.

commitment

Day 9: Commitment – Are You All In?

You don’t reap the full impact of power of God in your life until you’re all in — until you reach a level of commitment. Half-measures don’t do. Prioritizing what God has you on this planet to do as your top priority changes everything in a fantastic way. In this video I share my experience with straddling the fence with God and how it didn’t work for me. I also share how fully choosing God and using this 90 Day Light the World:  Build the Kingdom Challenge to dive deeper is blessing my life.  And we’re only 9 days in!

Please join me and share your experiences on social media using #90DayLTWChallenge #LightTheWorld #BuildTheKingdom

I am that I am

Day 8: I Am That I Am

Life is made up of a bazillion tiny choices that you and everyone else in the world is making. All any of us can do is tap into our own heart, our own spirit as clearly and as cleanly as possible. We can reach toward God’s reaching and make our choices the best we know how in the moment.

As we do that (and even when we don’t do that), I believe every choice we make is “perfect.” Even if we learn later we could have done something differently, it was perfectly designed to bring us to where we need to be next. There have been times when I outright knew to do better but could not muster the strength, will power or faith to do it. As I kept calling out to Him, kept asking for His help, He brought me back around and made all of it serve my journey and shaped me into a more compassionate, less judgmental person.

All our life lessons build on each other. Everything happens for a reason and often the reason is simply to position us somewhere new.

Looking back can be helpful when we look at it realistically…both the positive and the negative in equal balance, until we see it through grateful eyes that comprehend that it was all divine perfection. Second guessing everything in an effort to more effectively control future outcomes is futile. Even if we get it all right the next time, there will be a completely new and different set of a bazillion variables.

Regardless of what we may believe, we do NOT have ultimate control of outcomes. There are too many other variables involved (including the freedom to choose for every other person on the planet).

What we CAN control is whether we choose to see divine balance in everything that happens, whether we choose to gratefully see God’s loving hand in every little thing. In the darkness and in the light, in the poor choices and the wise ones, He IS There. His name is “I Am, That I Am.” There is nowhere he is NOT. Everything serves because HE IS THERE.

As we really begin to understand this, we liberate ourselves from the past, from the need to control. We can go forward living in love, peace, and gratitude, allowing whatever comes to be divine perfection.

Day 6: The Worth of Souls Is Great In the Sight of God

Have you ever heard someone say, “That person isn’t worth my time?” Or maybe you’ve heard people speak derogatorily about people of a certain belief system, lifestyle, race or ethnicity. Our world is a world of labels. For some reason we feel compelled to lump people into groups or categories and assume everyone within those groups may be judged as a herd instead of as individuals. Jesus had a different view about the worth of souls.

In this segment of the Light the World: Build the Kingdom 90-Day Challenge I talk about how Jesus Christ treated people and how we can follow His example. His life, death and resurrection can teach us much about how to view and interact with people we don’t agree with or who we might perceive as our enemies.

in the beginning was the word

Day 5: In the Beginning Was the Word

In St. John Chapter 1, John the Beloved wrote: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.

All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

That [Jesus] was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.” John 1:1-10

How can we follow the example of John and be a witness for Christ? How can we show people that He IS the light and life of the world. How can we help those who walk in darkness comprehend the light?

I love this video from my friend Tara Jensen of JoyInTheMountains.com. She talks about how we label other people instead of treating them the way God would treat them. I think this fits perfectly with the fact that we ALL have the light of Christ flowing through us. There is good in everyone. Let’s stop labeling people and see Christ in them instead.

preach deliverance

Day 4: Preach Deliverance to the Captives

After being tempted by Satan, Jesus began his mortal ministry in his home town by reading Isaiah 61. He declared he was here to preach deliverance to the captives:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor, he hath sent me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised. To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.”

He closed the book, gave it back to the minister, sat down and said, “This day is the scripture fulfilled in your ears.”

If Jesus Christ had a mission statement, it would be this passage. As disciples of Jesus Christ, His mission is our mission. We are here to be His hands and feet to set the captive free.

In today’s episode of the Light The World: Build the Kingdom Challenge we talk about how this might look in your life.

let it go

Day 3: Let It Go

In Day 3 of the Light the World: Build the Kingdom 90 Day Challenge, we talk about letting go of any hurt, anger, resentment toward anyone or anything else. In order to shine our brightest, we must release anything standing in our way. Let it go! That includes feelings of unforgiveness.

In this video I share an experience I had today that allowed me to set things right with someone in my life so I could move forward unencumbered and step fully into the light.

Is there someone or something you need to let go?
